Portrait Photographers

I enjoy this photo, mainly because I'm a violinist. The scroll turning into a lion is very unique and I approve.

I like the sense of motion without moving in this photo. The shadows really add to it.

I like how even just looking at Johnny Cash's back still is grand and tells us who it is.

This looks like the Oklahoma City bombing and the debris. It captures the sadness and chaos.

This picture, to me, shows hope because of the lone building in the distance. The city can be rebuilt.

Mark Seliger is a very interesting person. The best way to describe him and his pictures is like taking a shotgun and firing  and where all the pellets end up, that is the pictures that he shoots. Photographs may range from post-apocalyptic scenarios to Johnny Cash, from people in the nude to a violin scroll. He is a very strange and unique photographer.

Introduction to light

Today I learned about key lights, fill lights and back lights. It is good to have a key light and very good to have a reflector. The reflector can be used anywhere where there is light. A very, very good photographer once said, "If I could have two things, it would be a camera and a reflector." I also learned that the closer you move the lights to the subject, the softer the lights and shadows become. These things have definitely helped me as I continue to become a better photographer.

Photography Terms

1) I prefer to see darker clouds in the background, creating a more interesting picture compared t the normal bright sunny day photo.
2) Light and Depth of Field
3) ISO is the sensor of the camera to light.
4) Shutter speed is the speed of the shutter in the camera. It affects the clearness of the photo and the light in the picture.
5)Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. They work together to control the amount of light in the photo.
6) Aperture and shutter speed.
7) Shutter priority allows you to control the shutter speed only. Aperture priority allows you to control the aperture only. Manual allows you to control both the aperture and the shutter speed.
8) Tonal values are things that control the amount of lights and darks. You can use levels and curves.

10) Diffused light is light that is bouncing off other objects. Direct light is light that comes directly from a light source. Existing light is light that is captured by the camera and not added later on. Artificial light is the opposite is the opposite of existing light, or is light created by something like a light bulb. Natural light is light that comes from non-manmade sources such as the sun or fire. Fill light is a light that has less power than the key light and is used to minimize contrast. Key light is "the first and usually most important light for a photographer" and it usually provides the most light for the photo. Flash light is he light that comes from the flash on the camera and is typically used when in a dark area.
11) First save as a psd, then crop. Continue by altering tonal values and then save as JPG.
12) You can use the marquee tools, magic wand or the quick selection.
13) Adjustment layers are non- destructive and can be deleted if you make a destructive mistake.
14) Taking a picture of a person without their consent. An example of this is the vampire weekend contra cd cover. My opinion is you should get permission if you are oing to take a close up of someone.
15) I think that photography is important because it captures a moment in time that we wouldn't otherwise remember if we didn't have the picture.

Architectural location

1) Where?
I'm thinking about shooting around OHSU.
2) Why?
OHSU is an interesting landmark on a hill in Portland, so I believe that it will be interesting to shoot around.
3) What?
I'm thinking about the tram and the buildings.
4) When?
I'm thinking afternoon/evening.
5) How will I capture it in a unique way?
I will try to shoot at the corners and I want to see if I can get at sot while on the tram.
6) What particular challenges do I invision?
I think that it will be hard to get a shot while moving on the tram and not make my picture too dark.

Q2W2-Architectural Photography

I like this picture because the building seems to pop out of the landscape and fill the area.

I like this picture because of the clarity in the reflection. It seems like the building itself juxtaposes itself. It creates a wave like building out of a bunch of straight lines.

I like this picture because the arch falls into the silhouette of the tree. It makes a cool transition from black to blue. 

I can't figure out  if this picture is fake because the aspect of it looks realistic, but fake too. It looks potentially computer generated.

I like this picture of the John Hancock building because it uses a low angle shot to portray it as a towering skyscraper that never ends.

The Taj Mahal is very beautiful in this picture in my opinion because it has a pink hue to it and the bottom rest on the lower line in the rule of thirds.

I like this picture because it blurs in the water and uses the lights to brighten the picture in the night.

This picture of the colosseum is very pretty with  the cold hovering over it.
